APAT Code of Practise

Providing electrical safety at your work place

  • They must at all times reach the satisfactory standard of workmanship required by the Association.
  • Where a complaint is made against a member, the member will cooperate fully with the Associations investigations. The member will provide all relevant documentation and will appoint a representative to handle the complaint. Where as a result of the Associations investigations it is shown that the complaint is upheld against the member.
  • Members should be aware of their legal obligations for example with regard to the Sale of Goods Act, the Supply of Goods and Services Act and the Trade Descriptions Act.
  • Members should provide their membership number to members of the general public when requested to do so.
  • Members should make sub-contractors aware of their Association membership and the resultant obligations this places on the sub-contractor to work to the standards required by the association and they should check and monitor that their sub-contractors are working to the APAT Code of Practice.
  • All members will use their best endeavours to abide by any agreed timetables of work and delivery.
  • All members should obtain prior approval from the customer (preferably in writing) for any variation to the agreed work.
  • All members should ensure that any remedial work consequent upon the practical completion of a contract is finished to a good standard and in accordance with the agreed timetable.
  • All members should provide all customers with a choice of materials or goods where appropriate, together with clear explanations of their relative merits and costs.
  • All members must have fully paid-up public and employer's liability insurance cover.
  • All members must allow their work to be inspected by APAT.
  • All estimates and invoices must bear the GST number and all prices will indicate whether they are inclusive of GST (if GST is applicable).
  • All quotations, estimates and invoices must be clear and unambiguous with no hidden costs or extras and should include all the work necessary for satisfactory inspection & testing of the item or items specified.
  • Any franchiser granted membership must have signed an undertaking that the franchiser itself will deal with any complaints from the customers of the franchisees speedily and satisfactorily.
  • If use is made of Hire Equipment, a system must be maintained to record details of instruments hired and their calibration.
  • All work undertaken must be certificated in accordance with the requirements of the appropriate NZ Standard and applicable Statutory Regulations.
  • Records of all work undertaken and the corresponding certification, since the last APAT surveillance visit, must be made available for inspection by your local officer on their subsequent visit.
  • Each Member Company must identify an individual who is responsible for the overall standard & safety of work carried out.
  • An APAT Member Company must at all times employ at least 1 technically 'Competent Person', assessed as described in membership details.
  • Any change in the individuals identified in COP 20 must be notified to APAT
  • Once membership has ceased for whatever reason the Association logo may no longer be displayed by the ex-member in any form whatsoever and all promotional material should be returned. Immediate steps must be taken to cancel or amend all advertisements and respondents to advertisements featuring the logo must be informed immediately of the cessation of the membership. The Association will require from the ex-member written evidence that this has been done within 21 days of expiry or expulsion.
  • The Board of Directors reserve the right to expel members when their behaviour and/or workmanship are deemed to have fallen below the standard required by the Association's Aims and Objectives and qualifications for membership. The member will have the right to appeal to the Board of Directors against such dismissal by appearing in person and producing evidence to show that it is unjustified. The decision of the Board of Directors will be final. No refund of subscriptions will be made.
